If you live in Leisure World and have been curious about acupuncture - whether for chronic pain, arthritis, insomnia, neuropathy, or just maintaining your health and vitality as you age - Soapstone Acupuncture is closer than you might think.

We have two locations that serve Leisure World residents conveniently:

  • Silver Spring — 8720 Georgia Ave, Suite 300, at the corner of Georgia Ave and Cameron St. A short, easy drive down Georgia Avenue from Leisure World.

  • Rockville — located in the Twinbrook neighborhood, easily accessible via Norbeck Road and Baltimore Road.

Both locations offer the full range of acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine services. Many Leisure World residents find the Silver Spring location particularly convenient given its proximity on Georgia Ave, while others prefer the Rockville office depending on where they're headed that day.

Why Leisure World Residents Come to Us

We currently see patients from Leisure World for a range of concerns — most commonly chronic pain and arthritis, which respond exceptionally well to acupuncture. But the conditions we treat reflect the full picture of what it means to age well:

  • Arthritis and joint pain — osteoarthritis of the knees, hips, hands, and spine; rheumatoid arthritis flares

  • Chronic pain — back pain, neck pain, sciatic pain, and post-surgical discomfort

  • Peripheral neuropathy — numbness, tingling, and burning in the hands and feet, including diabetic neuropathy

  • Insomnia and sleep problems — difficulty falling or staying asleep, early morning waking

  • Balance and mobility support — acupuncture can improve proprioception and reduce the muscular tension that contributes to balance problems

  • Fatigue and low energy — supporting vitality and overall wellbeing

  • Digestive concerns — bloating, constipation, and other age-related digestive changes

  • Anxiety and stress — particularly helpful for those navigating health challenges or major life transitions

  • Headaches and migraines

  • General wellness and prevention — many patients come simply to stay well, maintain mobility, and support healthy aging

Acupuncture and Aging Well

East Asian Medicine has a long tradition of supporting healthy aging. It’s not just about treating disease, but about actively nourishing the body's reserves and keeping the channels of circulation open and flowing. In Chinese medicine, many of the changes we associate with aging, such as stiffness, reduced energy, poor sleep, cold extremities, weakened digestion, and more, are understood as patterns that can be addressed, not simply inevitable declines to accept.

Acupuncture, herbal medicine, and the other modalities we offer work together to support your body's own healing mechanisms. Patients are often surprised by how much better they feel — not just in the area they came to us for, but overall.

What to Expect

Your first appointment is 90 minutes. We'll sit together in the treatment room and have an unhurried conversation about your health history and current concerns before completing a simple physical exam and your first treatment. There's no need to disrobe - loose, comfortable clothing is ideal but not required. Most patients leave feeling noticeably calmer and more at ease than when they arrived.

Follow-up appointments are typically 45–60 minutes. We'll work with your schedule and energy levels. If driving becomes more challenging, herbal medicine consultations are also available via telehealth for Maryland residents, allowing you to receive customized herbal prescriptions.

For patients with other insurance plans, we provide detailed superbills for out-of-network reimbursement. Unfortunately we are not able to accept most Medicare plans, but it is possible with some supplemental plans. We are always happy to check to see what’s possible, and to give you instructions so you can discuss with your insurer.
